Architecture and Interiors

In the rapidly evolving landscape of Warangal, Telangana, a new benchmark for contextual, modern residential architecture has emerged. Spanning a generous 6,000-square-foot land area, this modern residence is a bespoke, ground-up architectural and interior design project born from a seamless collaboration between Akshay Kadoori of AK.KO design studio and Rootsense.

The residence represents a deliberate departure from the ostentatious, choosing instead to explore the philosophy of quiet luxury. By blending a monolithic, structurally expressive exterior with an incredibly soft, warm, and tactile interior, the design team has crafted a sanctuary that responds to the regional climate while offering an emotionally resonant living experience.

The architectural narrative begins with the building's envelope, a powerful expression of form, permanence, and environmental awareness. Designed to navigate the intense tropical climate of the region, the facade acts as a protective yet porous shield.

As seen in the exterior expression, the architecture leverages the raw, honest beauty of board-formed concrete. The horizontal texturing of the concrete walls gives the structure an earthy, grounded quality, mimicking sedimentary rock layers. This massive structural volume is strategically punctured by deep-set, recessed glazing and massive floor-to-ceiling glass doors on the ground level.

The expansive ground-floor opening creates an uninterrupted visual and physical transition to the lush verandah, complete with a traditional yet contemporary hanging wooden swing — a nod to regional living. The integration of native tree canopies and cascading perimeter greenery softens the brutalist undertones of the concrete, ensuring the home feels deeply connected to its site from day one.

Stepping across the threshold reveals a deliberate, masterfully executed contrast. Where the exterior talks of strength and protection, the interior whispers of absolute softness, warmth, and refined minimalism.

The interior architectural layout prioritizes a fluid, open-plan volume that allows light and air to circulate effortlessly. As demonstrated in the main living pavilion, the design team curated a palette entirely centered on tactile, organic materials.

This project stands as a testament to what modern Indian architecture can achieve when it respects local climate conditions while leaning into a timeless, global design aesthetic.
